Nurse Zoe was my intake nurse for a condition characterized by high kidney and heart numbers, with a distended abdomen. Her concern about my mysterious condition was most reassuring. She made sure that I understood the intake process at the hospital and how to get help if I needed it. She described what would happen next and when; what the doctor would do to determine my condition; and explained the whole process from intake to discharge and follow-up. The fact that she was willing to listen and respond to multiple questions about what my condition might be, how it would be treated, and why. When I was in the hospital a week later to see a specialist, I stopped by the ER to ask some follow-up questions and obtain replacements for failing catheter supplies. Nurse Zoe not only attended to me as before but even explained how to remove the residual glue from my leg that was left from the catheter tube securement mechanism. I couldn’t have imagined having a more considerate, well-informed, and caring nurse in an ER.
