The Dr. Karlene Kerfoot Nursing Leadership in Technology Education Grant

The Dr. Karlene Kerfoot Education Grant recognizes and supports nurse leaders who are passionate about leading innovation and technology in healthcare. Two Education Grant Reimbursements of up to US$5,000 each will be awarded to nurse leaders who demonstrate a strong background in successfully implementing technology or innovation strategies and who articulate a clear vision for the future impact of their work on patient care.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Grantees will be active members of AONL.
- In the application, Grantees will submit descriptions of
- Their experience implementing successful technology or innovation strategies.
- The impact their work in technology has had on one or more of the following: their organization, nursing practice, nursing leadership, and/or patient care improvement.
- How they plan to use the grant funds. Approved uses of funds include:
- Attendance at national clinical informatics and/or technology-related conferences.
- Obtaining specialized technology/clinical informatics certifications.
- Pursuing graduate education in technology/clinical informatics.
- Grantees commit to applying funded education to advancing nursing practice.
- Grantees will present their achievements and learnings at an AONL event the following year.
Application Process:
Applications will be accepted from June 1-September 1, 2025 (5:00 Pacific time). Application will be available here at that time.
Applicants will provide
- Proof of active AONL membership
- A letter of endorsement from the applicant’s organization CNO/CNE that includes verification of current involvement in a leadership role in healthcare technology or work on a technology project to advance patient care.
Selection Criteria:
Reviewers with expertise in technology and nursing leadership will select Grantees based on applicants’
- Demonstrated impact and leadership in the integration of technology in nursing
- Clear and compelling vision for technology’s contribution to patient care
- Potential for the funded education to significantly advance the applicant's professional and educational goals.
Commitment Upon Receiving the Grant:
- Recipients will receive the education described in their proposal. They will submit a report on their progress and achievements within 6 weeks (subject to change as the grant is finalized) of the completion of their funded education.
- Grantees will provide receipts/verification of use of funds to The DAISY Foundation for reimbursement.
- Recipients will share their experience and success stories, providing inspiration and practical insights to peers at an AONL event.
